
Stefan Kühndorf has been a permanent member of the Stuttgart State Orchestra since September 2019. In the summer of 2022, he played for the first time in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Wagner Festival.
He is regularly engaged as a substitute with various well-known orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, Stuttgart Philharmonic, WDR Symphony Orchestra, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and the Festival Strings Lucerne expanded his musical repertoire. Participation in major festivals such as the Berlin Festival, Lucerne Festival and BBC Proms London.
Stefan Kühndorf has been a lecturer for contrabass tuba at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts since 2019. In 2023 he switched to Stuttgart university of music.
Stefan Kühndorf received his first music lessons on the cornet at the age of 8, two years later he switched to the tuba. After postgraduate studies at the Basel Music Academy with Ernst May, he completed his bachelor's degree with Prof. David LeClair in 2012. During this time, he achieved various competition successes (including 1st prize as champion at the Northwestern Switzerland soloist competition). After further studies with Prof. Stefan Heimann and Stefan Ambrosius as part of his master's degree at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart, his path led to engagements at the Frankfurt Opera and the Berlin State Opera to the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne, of which he was a member from 2015-2019.
