Dr. Sara Renner joined the faculty at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2025, where she serves as Assistant Professor of Oboe and Music History. An accomplished oboist with a multifaceted career, Dr. Renner is an active performer, educator, and recording artist. She has performed as a recitalist and ensemble member with organizations both nationally and internationally, including the OperaMaya International Music Festival (Mexico), the Scheherazade Music Festival, and the Victoria Bach Festival. As an orchestral player, Dr. Renner has performed with symphonies around the country, including El Paso, Omaha, South Dakota, Sioux City, Corpus Christi, and Laredo symphony orchestras. Dr. Renner has taught at institutions around the nation, including the University of Texas at El Paso, University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of Alabama, and Washburn University.
Dr. Renner actively performs and presents at International Double Reed Society Conferences with various engagements, including lecture recitals, world premieres, solo recitals, and chamber recitals. An advocate of new music, Dr. Renner is involved in commissioning and recording new works, as featured on her solo album of unaccompanied commissions, Oboe: Unfolded. She can also be heard on the MSR Classics release of Ruminations, where she is featured on Alyssa Morris’s oboe trio, Parable of a Stormy Sea. She is the oboist for the Plumeria Winds trio (oboe, clarinet, and bassoon), an active reed trio that performs across Texas, at various conferences, and premieres and commissions new works.
Dr. Renner holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Performance from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and the Columbus State University Schwob School of Music, respectively. She received her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where her secondary discipline was Musicology with an emphasis in Early Music. Her primary teachers include Dr. Mark Ostoich, Dwight Parry, Christopher Philpotts, and Dr. Susan Hatch Tomkiewicz.
Dr. Renner is an Eastman Winds/Fossati performing artist.
